I have tried many things to solve this with no luck:
uninstall and resinstall the printer
deleting the printers from the registry
updating the firmware on the printer
installing all the latest Windows 10 updates
installing the driver and software from the hp website
using the "Run the troubleshooter" option in Windows for the printer
